Preston FM Supports International Women’s Day with special day of programmes

Preston’s Community Radio Station, Preston FM, is suspending it’s usual broadcast schedule to bring Preston and beyond 14 hours of programmes dedicated to International Women’s Day this Monday 8th March 2010 from 8am. Male and Female presenters join hands to help you learn more about the issues and stories affecting women here in the UK and around the world.

You can listen in Preston and the surrounding area on 103.2fm, and around the world online by clicking the “listen live” button above.  And if you miss any of the programmes, we’ll be podcasting as many of them as possible here.

The day will include a special edition of our Chat City Morning programme, as well as discussions, debates, documentaries and even dramas. Some packages will be borrowed from other community radio stations around the world - but most are being made by Preston FM volunteers.

The theme for the day will be reflected in everything - the interviews, the features, the vox pops, the music, the content from around the world. Preston FM’s music team have scoured the archives to find appropriate and relevant music for the day.

Our International Women’s Day coverage is part of Preston FM's "Preston & Beyond" project, funded by DFID's Development Awareness Fund, which is helping local people gain a better understanding of the UN Millennium Development Goals and other International Development topics.

More information can be found about International Women's Day can be found at http://www.internationalwomensday.com

Divided We Fall

ImagePreston FM was pleased to be part of an exciting radio drama project - Divided We Fall - which ran on air throughout February.

Starring Vincent Ebrahim (The Kumars at No 42) and Mina Anwar (Sarah Jane Adventures), the drama looked at the contemporary issues of violent extremism and how young people can get sucked into it. Paralleling the radicalisation of a young Muslim Asian boy (Ibrahim) and a white ex soldier returning from Afghanistan (Jonno), it explored what makes people vulnerable to extremist views and what alternatives there might be.

Even though the drama has finished on air, you can still find out more about the project on the special Divided We Fall pages of our website - including podcasts, pictures, a plot guide and a map of the fictional estate where the drama is set.

If you've been listening, please tell us what you think of the series by filling in this short on-line survey .
