Services

We have shown, over the last three years, that community radio is an effective tool for informal learning as well as a valuable tool for communicating issues which are under-served by mainstream media. As Preston FM enters its next phase, there are many ways that you can get involved with the project – we hope you’ll be excited by our ideas, and have some of your own as well.

Partnership is at the heart of what Preston FM does. We’re here as a resource for the community, and all the organisations that form part of it – public, private and voluntary.

Get your message out – by letting us know about your news and events, and by providing guests and panellists for our programmes.
Refer your users to us – we’re always happy to take referrals onto our training and volunteering programmes from agencies working in Preston and South Ribble.
Train yourselves – whether it’s volunteers or staff enrolling on our existing courses, or media training designed specifically for your organisation, we can help.
Get on air – you suggest the topic, and we can help you produce creative, exciting radio to help tell the city and South Ribble what you do and what you care about.
Creative consultation – use the power of radio to find out what local people think about any topic you care to choose.
Sponsorship – enhance awareness of your organisation and support a progressive community project, all at the same time, with our sponsorship packages.
Have a go yourself – want to set up radio in your school, on your website or in your village – we’ve got a wealth of experience to help you out.

  • Divided We Fall  ( 6 items )

Welcome to Preston FM's new radio drama - Divided We Fall. On these pages, you can find out more about the series and the issues that it explores.

Divided We Fall is an exciting new radio drama serial that looks at the contemporary issues of violent extremism and how young people can get sucked into it. Paralleling the radicalisation of a young Muslim Asian boy (Ibrahim) and a white ex soldier returning from Afghanistan (Jonno), the drama explores what makes people vulnerable to extremist views and what alternatives there might be.

The Drama has been commissioned by Shahbash, a not-for-profit-organisation working in Muslim communities across Lancashire, with funding support from the Home Office.  The drama is being made by a Manchester-based production company, Mannmade Productions.

The cast is lead by Vincent Ebrahim (The Kumars at No 42) and Mina Anwar (Sarah Jane Adventures).

The drama has finished broadcasting now, but don't panic if you've missed it - you can catch up here with our podcasts.

  • Youth Project  ( 3 items )

Preston FM is pleased to announce the launch of its new opportunities helping to engage young people in community radio. In conjunction with v, the youth volunteering charity aimed at getting young people positively involved in the community, we will be offering volunteering opportunities at Preston FM for 240 young people over the next three years, who will help to run the community station as well as to coordinate, commission and schedule a new strand of youth radio programmes. The opportunities will be flexible in terms of time commitment, area of activity and subject matter, allowing them to be adapted to fit the interests, cares and passions of a diverse group of young people.

Young people will be able to enter the project at any level, and will be encouraged to progress as far as they can; taking on mentoring, training, governance, technical and management roles as their skill and confidence grows.

The dedicated youth volunteering project will deliver opportunities at three levels:

Short term “taster” sessions offering workshops in skills such Audio Production, DJ/MCing and Radio Journalism.
Part-time opportunities in which participants will undertake an accredited level 2 training course in community radio and form teams to create full programmes, news features, music projects, promotional events and other activities associated with Preston FM.
Full-time placement opportunities lasting a minimum of three months, where participants will be able to develop their interests and skills in programme production, on-air activity, technical support, studio management, training delivery or other areas of community radio that interest them.
